When he's not busy
dunking on giraffes or playing with his
customized Skittles pinball machine, Orlando Magic center and all-around goofball Dwight Howard
can often be found planking.
Yes, Howard — the NBA's pre-eminent big man, a five-time All-Star and the three-time reigning defensive player of the year — is also the league's most notorious planker, and he's brought his love of lying face down to China.
On Thursday, as part of an adidas promotional tour through the country of more than 1 billion, Howard made a stop at Ditan Park in Beijing, where he put on a clinic, did drills and played games with hundreds of eager fans.
Then, once the basketball portion of the event was done, Howard got about 100 fans to lie face down on a multicolored court in the shape of his new adidas "dh" logo.
Howard has always seemed to have an affinity for China.
The 6-foot-11 behemoth averaged 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for team USA when it won Olympic gold in the 2008 games in Beijing, and he's done promotional tours of China with Bulls point guard Derrick Rose in past offseasons.
He has one of the top-selling jerseys in the country, and he's even gone as far as to suggest
he might play in China if the NBA lockout persists (
though he later thought better of it).
Howard will continue his tour of China, making stops in Changchun, Wuhan and Nanjing over the next few days. There's no word yet on whether there will be mass-planking sessions in those cities, too, but when it comes to the always-playful Howard, you can't rule anything out.
